A CONSCIOUSNESS MOVEMENT BEGINS
“Saris for Good Karma” is a consciousness movement that was inspired by the careful observation of Indian women. Traditionally the sari is worn to functions such as weddings, ceremonies, the temple, special events, etc. Every sari has a different price, story and uniqueness for the owner.
If you take a look at an Indian woman’s wardrobe you will notice some saris have been in there for over 10 years (sometimes more) and have never been worn more than once or twice. This project is an outlet for letting go of the hoarding and creating space for newness, freeing up the clutter and helping other women who are less fortunate by getting rid of those old saris.
The project is calling on all Indian women with unwanted saris to donate them to “Saris for Good Karma.” All the saris that are collected will be turned into evening couture outfits, beaded to enhance its value, remade into cushions, book covers, etc by a selected group of underprivileged women from unit 2, Bayview or resold back into other communities (with proceeds going towards this project).
It can take just one old sari to change a woman’s life forever. So get into those cupboards, draws and old bags and get rid of what you don’t need, as there is a women not even 20kms from where you are right now that can have a plate of food on her table for her family if you do.
