Saris for Good Karma invited to showcase at African Fashion Week New York
Saris for Good Karma has been invited to showcase at African Fashion Week New York! With your support we will be able to take the dreams of our ladies onto the famed catwalks of the Big Apple. Our goal is not only to showcase our collection but also to allow one of our ladies to go to New York City for the show.
In collaboration with well-known Kenyan model and fashion designer, Liz Ogumbo, Saris for Good Karma will debut a new fashion line – Rekebisha– on the runways of New York at this year’s African Fashion Week.
Our latest initiative will be centred on Rekebisha– a Swahili term “to restore”. Through this Indo-African fusion, we aim “to restore” the broken spirits and unrealized dreams of ladies throughout Africa as we focus on opening more training centres around the continent. Be a part of this uniquely diversified dream as we marry the concept of Rekebishaand Karma to create a Haute Couture collection with soul!
This ethical range will see the intertwining of two cultures as we incorporate the Indian sari with the wise sayings of the Leso (Kenyan traditional garment) and showcase a collection of beautiful fabrics, prints, and colours.
Above showcasing, we will be given the opportunity to sell our garments at Pop-Up stores in New York. ALL proceeds from the range showcased at African Fashion Week New York will be used to start up new centres and support more women in Africa to start their own small businesses and will help to lower the level of poverty in Africa.
HOW CAN YOU HELP
Your support has brought us thus far. We are currently raising funds to send one of our ladies – who have graduated from the Saris for Good Karma programme – to African New York Fashion Week. We would like to have at least one lady experience this dream in person and see her collaboration with Liz on the runways of New York. To donate, email
or call 031 837 3794 to see how you can donate.
